1. Have you always been a writer?
Nope. My whole life, up until now, has been dedicated to the visual arts. The only consistent writing I've done has been journaling. I never felt like I had the attention span or imagination for writing anything more than a few pages.
2. What made you start writing?
I had toyed with the idea for several years and after the deterioration of a seven year relationship, I found that I had more time than I knew what to do with. While struggling with terrible creative block from my art, I decided to sit down and write. It started as a very private thing for me that helped relieve creative stress, and with the encouragement of my mom (also a writer), I kept at it while learning as much as I could about the genre and the art of creative writing.
3. What's your process like?
I'm still learning. Reading and researching, experimenting with what I feel is the most organic way for me to write. Check out my blog to follow my progress through the journey of my first book.
4. Why pigeon hole yourself to LesFic?
As a lesbian, I want to add to a genre that I thoroughly enjoy myself. At this moment in time, these are the stories that are in my head. I don't know if that will always be true, but for right now I write what is of the greatest interest to me.
5. Is Kate Grove your real name?
No. Kate is a nickname for my real name and Grove is a family name. I use my real name for my visual art, so if you see a crazy painter out there who looks like me, you've stumbled upon my secret identity.
